QLD/NT Chapter | Eight Mile Plains | Light Gauge Steel Frames & Building in Flood Prone Areas

This is a two-part event concentrating on the residential sector for building surveyors.

Part 1- Light Gauge Steel Frames – Residential:

With steel frames being widely accepted and used in Australia, this training event has been developed in consultation with Bluescope steel to detail the approval mechanisms for building surveyors when accepting, approving and inspecting light gauge steel frames in Queensland. 

Topics will include the following; 

  • Fabrication and LGS:
    Overview of the frame fabrication process, difference in fabrication technologies, incompatible materials/dissimilar metals
  • Steel Structure
    Structural details, bracing requirements, lintels, connections and hold down details, span tables
  • Compliance Mechanisms
    NCC Compliance pathways, NASH Standards including, Bushfire compliance to AS 3959, Structural compliance, energy efficiency. 
    Good practice vs compliance mechanisms to NCC.

Part 2 - Approving Residential Buildings in Flood Prone Areas:

A changing climate has placed increasing pressure on building surveyors to ensure that residential buildings that are built in flood hazard areas will be able to withstand the forces of a major flooding event.  

A review of the NCC with respect to flooding and the ABCB Standard for Construction of buildings in flood hazard areas will be reviewed in this specific training event.  

We have teamed up with Darryl O’Brien to deliver this training event developed for building surveyors by building surveyors.  Keep up to date with the latest developments, this training event will provide you with the information to ensure that you are kept up to date and compliant when assessing and inspecting buildings in areas that are subjected to flood.

About the Speakers:  


Dr Darryl O'Brien:
Darryl is a private building consultant based in Queensland, and commenced in October 2020 as the  AIBS Audit Manager and Specialist Consultant.  Darryl holds Undergraduate degrees in Building Surveying and Building Design and Postgraduate qualifications include a PhD, Masters Environmental Planning and Graduate Certificates in Tertiary Education and Urban Planning.  Darryl also acts an Independent Technical Expert for Cladding Safety Victoria. 

Please note due to COVID-19 restrictions are in place for this training. 

To meet the venues COVID Safe Plan, there are strict numbers set for this event. Only those that are registered via the AIBS website will be able to attend, To avoid disappointment, please do not arrive at the event without registration as unfortunately you will not be permitted to enter the room.

Please note that you will not receive an attendance certificate for this event. AIBS record your attendance at any of our face to face training events, webinars or AIBSTV. 

When preparing your AIBS CPD Return, you are not required to provide a certificate of attendance at AIBS events, as your attendance is already recorded by our staff. 
When completing your return please note the date and name of the event, and AIBS staff will verify your attendance. This will save you having to find and collate your attendance certificates over your CPD year.

Please note that for non-AIBS events you evidence of attendance will be required. ,

Cancellation Policy: Refunds for registrations should be provided in writing to training@aibs.com.au as outlined below and calculated from the first day of training:
 More than 30 days - Full refund
 Between 7 and 30 days - 50% refund
 Less than 7 days - No refund

Participants may transfer their registration to another training session up to one (1) working day prior to the commencement of the training day without loss of funds.

Payment Policy: Payment is required PRIOR to attending the event.
  • All registrations are confirmed upon completion of registration and issue of an invoice
  • Payment terms on all invoices are the earlier of 14 days from the date of invoice, or prior to the first day of the event (where registration is completed and invoice issued less than 14 days from the first day of the event).
  • Payment can be made via credit card through the online portal or by phoning the AIBS office on 1300 312 427 Monday-Thursday 8:30am - 4:30pm (AEST)
  • Any cancellation of registrations for seminars must be made in writing to training@aibs.com.au. Non-attendance at an event without written notice will not be accepted as a valid cancellation. 
  • A failure to make payment in accordance with the above terms will not be accepted as a valid cancellation.
