About this Event Wednesday 10 June 2026
This webinar provides building surveyors with a targeted overview of how modern renewable energy technologies—solar systems, inverters, and energy storage units—interact with buildings, and how these interfaces create both opportunities and fire safety challenges relevant to assessment and occupancy authorisation.
Understand why fire testing matters:
This webinar will include an introduction to current testing methodologies and the risks they aim to address, and explain the limitations of standards such as UL 9540A, the role of NFPA 855, new developments out of China, and the challenges in extrapolating results from experimental studies—concluding with an assessment of how well current testing frameworks meet our real world needs.
The webinar also examines firefighting considerations, focusing on how solar array and battery fires affect occupant egress, building structural integrity, fire rescue operations, and smoke hazard management.
This webinar will look ahead to emerging technologies—including flow batteries, sodium based chemistries, and hydrogen energy systems—highlighting their potential benefits, their associated fire and explosion hazards, and what surveyors need to anticipate as these systems become more common.
